Darth Vader by erwebb Darth Vader by erwebb
Copyright Lucasfilm LTD 1977-2006

Here is my favorite character of Star Wars.... Darth Vader. I drew out Vader in ink, scanned into the computer. I did all the shading, blending, blurring and highlights in Photoshop. A long ways from the crappy 1st drawing I did of Vader when I was only 11 years old!

Vader... the one image that haunted me as a kid, so much that I wanted to draw his helmet. I couldn't draw back in 1977. I sat down and practiced trying to draw Vader for many months, until I was able to draw a helmet. If it hadn't been for Vader, I never would have learned to draw or do any kind of art at all!

A tribute to George Lucas and his Star Wars legacy...

Your welcome! Vader is the reason I am able to draw today!! He was the inspiration that made me want to draw as a kid!

So Vader holds a special place in my heart as a character. Sure he is evil, but was once upon a time, a really nice boy. He just got corrupted and sidetracked along the way!

In the early 1990s they rereleased the original Star Wars movies in the theaters. I was there to see them, even though I had already seen the originals in the theaters when they first came out. I did it for nostalgia. I wish I could relive the original release of Star Wars in 1977. It was like a bomb had hit Hollywood at the time. The whole WORLD was talking about Star Wars at that time. It was an amazing time in cinema, and I remember the original article in my local newspaper in Oregon. It was in the Parade, and the title 'What is this thing called Star Wars?" I wish I still had that article, as I had taped it to my wall as a kid in 1977. It was the first time I had ever seen C3P0 and R2D2... I didn't know anything much about the movie, until the day my parents took my brother and I to watch it. I was blown away by the power of the movie. I was fascinated the moment I saw Darth Vader's mask... the most interesting villan of all time...

You wouldn't happen to have a time machine that I could go back to 1977 again??

What program do you use for photo editing now? You can always get Photoshop Elements which is available for either Mac or Windows. It only costs 99 dollars. Much cheaper than the full version of Professional Photoshop. I can't afford the expensive pro photoshop (600 - $1,000). So I use Photoshop Elements instead...

Thanks for the compliments! IF it hadn't been for the character of Darth Vader, I never would have learned to draw. True story..... It had all started 30 years ago. :wow: I can't believe that many years has gone by since I first saw Star Wars in the movie theaters in 1977! What a year that was! Star Wars took the movie industry by storm back then, and it was the biggest thing ever! Everyone was talking about it back then! :blahblah:

Before Star Wars, Sci fi in the movies was dying, and losing audiences :dead: Star Wars brought Sci fi back to life!

He heh! :D You were not even born when Star Wars first came out! That was way back in the dark ages, before Microsoft or Apple even existed on the planet, and no one had ever heard of Steve Jobs or Bill gates...
We only had ONE screen theaters in our town! Multiple theaters didn't exist yet....not until the late 80s....when supermalls were invented!

Wow... I am an actual living relic of the past! I am becoming old and grey like Obi Wan Kenobi! I can remember when Vinyl LP records was "the" way to listen to music. In 1977, Cds did NOT exist... neither did user friendly personal computers, or MP3 players, etc. Cell phones was still science-fiction! Flash drives... no way!! That is just impossible! What's an Xbox? All we had back in the 70s and 80s was Atari! No Ninetendo, playstation, xbox or WII. None of that existed!

All have changed in just 30 years.... imagine what we will have in the next 10 years!!! I'm placing bets on personal robots for the home, and electric cars....solar panels, etc. Just remember that if you want to invest in the future...

Hmm, I think I will go to my closet and pull out the dusty old record player, and play some records for good old times sake!

I don't know if it is the best one, but I gave it my best efforts! The hard part was trying to shade and blend using the mouse.. I don't have one of those drawing tablets for the computer. I do it the old fashioned hard way... draw by mouse...

Hi there !

VERY nice job of painting and "Photoshoping" for a Darth Vader who looks almost more real than the "true" one... lol

As being a French lover of the Star Wars saga since its first movie in the seventies, I find this tribute to G. Lucas really awesome ! What could be Star Wars without Darth Vader ?

But on another note... ever wondered why the favourite war cry of the Ewoks was "Lucah ! " ? Perhaps not to say "Lucas...". I shoudn't surprided to recognize G. Lucas sense of humor. After all, in one of his other movies: "American Graffiti" the licence plate of a car is "THX 138" not to write "THX 1138" which is another of his movies...

And How about the THX label on the DVDs of the Star Wars trilogy I have at home ?

Anyway I'll close this THX / Lucah chapter by saying : Bravo !

Thanks for the compliments on the Photoshop painting! It is far better than my really terrible pencil version I did of Vader when I was only 11 years old! I have hidden that ugly drawing, as it is embarrassing to look at!

I grew up with Star Wars, and without it.... I never would have learned to draw, write or be interested in movies. Thanks to Lucas, I am A sci-fi fan, and a Star Wars fan for life! I didn't know the Ewoks were calling his name. I will have to listen very carefully the next time!

Did you know that Lucas made a cameo appearance in as a Baron with his REAL life daughter during the funeral of Padme? Lucas was in blue, playing a Baron >>> [link] << One of his daughters played a part next to him.

It was the first time Lucas had ever appeared in any of his films. I can only remember another cameo He played in an Eddie Murphy movie many years ago. I saw him in a line of people getting on a roller coaster ride in the movie! I was like, hey that is Lucas! He just played a minor part with all the extras...

So yes, the FORCE moves in mysterious ways....

Indeed, the FORCE moves in mysterious ways !

I grew up with and without Star Wars too (and others G. Lucas movies : Those ones I mentionned above in my previous comment)

But I didn't know about the G. Lucas as the Baron and Katie Lucas... Why ? A Star Wars fan like me must know about this ! But no : I missed "The Revenge Of Sith" for some reasons... (see note).

But apart from that I'm almost sure that the Ewok's favourite war cry is "Lucah", Indeed please listen carefully to the Ewok's "sounds" next time...

Now I know that I have now to purchase "The Revenge Of Sith" on DVD ;)

Thanks for the comments!! :D

Bush just makes me laugh that's all, as he is way too concerned about a stupid, useless war in Iraq than the very serious economic problems going on in the USA. Our country is literally falling apart economically, and he is more concerned about a foreign country. Hmmm, makes me wonder what is really happening here.

If I were president, I'd worry more about rebuilding my own country to make it #1 again.

People are going broke and losing their jobs in America. We are facing a very serious crisis in this country that is already happening. We had record foreclosures last month due to people unable to pay mortgages. People lost homes, and had to move into rental apartments. Housing is getting way too expensive in many states. The price of gas is skyrocketing, and I can barely afford to fill the gas tank of a 4 cylinder economy car!.

Many USA Companies are laying off people by the thousands left and right, and sending jobs to India, China and the Phillipines.

My own father (in his late 60s) is about to lose his job, and he is only a year away from retirement! The company is trying to screw him out of a retirement pension to save money!

I know of many people who have just lost their jobs, or are scrambling to survive under a massive debts with two or three jobs. I have a coworker who is burning himself out with 3 jobs just trying to make ends meet! He can't even afford a decent new car! :jawdrop:

So Bush needs to fix America FIRST before fixing and saving the rest of the world!!! :( What the hell good is it if the world is better while America becomes bankrupt financially and morally...

So yeah.. I am very concerned. Social security won't be available when I retire (if I ever get to retire... since Social Security has already been spent by the government), and I am having a very hard time getting a better job. There are so few good paying jobs left in my area, and I live in a major city of millions and millions of people. All fighting over whatever jobs are available. I once applied for a good job and saw 20 other people applying for the same job!

The Iraq war is costing way too damn much money, and Americans will freak out when the bill comes due... something like Trillions of dollars. America will be broke if we are not careful!

a financial advisor told me that most Americans are mostly in debt, and it is the highest debt ever in American History! Credit debt is out of control... people barely making ends meet living paycheck to paycheck....

Sadly, whoever is the next president will have to clean up this mess or it is over for America, as we will slide downhill unless something is done soon.

It was all done in Photoshop. Vader demanded that his suit polisher put on 3 coats of wax, not just ONE! The last guy who only put one coat of wax on his helmet.... well, lets just say he had to walk out into space without a suit..... :wow: He didn't last very long in deep space...

So I tried really hard to capture the waxy shine from the buffer.... :)

I am glad that you approve of it. I was worried that my art would not match the high quality work that you create!!
